THE YARDSTICK
With half the number of
matches played or slightly above in the major leagues of the beautiful game
played across Europe, it is high time we measured the effectiveness of the
Contenders Rating Scale (CRS) by Taiwo, Kehinde Oluwaseyi.
No doubt, with me on
board to analyse the projection put forward by him, courtesy this brainy
approach to being a final top 5 club placement clairvoyant in each of the
leagues in view, my job is to realistically measure why the Contenders Rating
Scale is effective or perhaps the contrary.
Remember, in the CRS,
he had the French
Ligue 1, English
Premier League, Spanish
La Liga, Italian
Serie A and the German
Bundesliga analysed and these would be treated by me in no
specific order.
So y’all should get
yourselves fastened to your seatbelts as I take you through a safe drive in analysing
these leagues…
I am your football
analyst diva, Anita Agbakoba…
THE
FRENCH LIGUE 1 CRS
Remember
that the purpose of this work is to measure the level of effectiveness of the CRS
with regards to the French Ligue 1 at the end of the season.
With
19 matches played and the same number left to conclude the 2012/13 Ligue 1
season, it is paramount we have an analysis of how the abovementioned five
teams have fared so far to further project why they still have a chance of
effectively measuring the CRS.
These
said, so far, the French Ligue has Paris Saint Germaine (PSG), Lyon and
Marseille making the cut in 1st, 2nd and 3rd
positions respectively but Lille and Bordeaux have failed to make the cut. In
this regards, Lille and Bordeaux are in 8th and 7th
position respectively with 29 points apiece.
It
is however paramount to point out that the current placement of Lille and
Bordeaux in 8th and 7th position still have them having a
significant chance of having a top 5 league placement. This is due to the fact
that 4th and 5th placed teams namely, Stade Rennes and
Lorient have so far garnered 32 and 31 points, thus 3 and 2 points above both
Bordeaux and Lille.
These
analysed, please do remember that from the earlier mentioned 5 teams that are
expected to have a top 5 finish, at least 4 will make the final cut and a
possibility of all 5 making it.
Will
the CRS be an effective way of projecting the top 5 teams at the end of the
season, the end of the season will perfectly answer the question.
THE
SPANISH LA LIGA CRS
Just how effective is the Spanish
La Liga Contenders Rating Scale (CRS) at predicting the
final contenders for the Spanish League at the end of this season? In the Spanish
La Liga Contenders posted at the start of season and
published on October 27, 2012, it was projected that the top 5 teams at the end
of the Spanish
La Liga will be
1.
Barcelona
2.
Real Madrid
3.
Atletico Madrid
4.
Valencia
5.
Sevilla FC
Well in the event of the Winter break, with 17
matches played and 21 left to go, this article aims at examining the level of
effectiveness of the CRS at achieving this projection at the end of the season.
Thus far, the La Liga has the following teams in its top five: Barcelona, Atletico
Madrid, Real Madrid, Malaga, and Real Betis (in that order) with Valencia and Sevilla
(losing out to Malaga and Real Betis) and landing in 9th and 14th place
respectively with the former currently having 24points and the latter 19points.
With 21 games left to
play when the season resumes, there is still a reasonable chance of Valencia
and Sevilla FC making it to the top 5 league placement since the teams currently
holding their projected spots i.e. Malaga and Real Bentis have 31 and 28 points
respectively and are therefore 7 and 9 points above Valencia and Sevilla.
With this said, we can
deduce from this little analysis that at least 4 (if not all) of the projected
5 teams will make it to the final 5 on the league table and this therefore
makes the CRS an effective way of projecting the final league table placement across
Europe.
THE
GERMAN BUNDESLIGA CRS
At the start of the
German league season, the following was the projection for the eventual top 5
contenders:
1.
Bayern Munich
2.
Borussia Dortmund
3.
Shalke 04
4.
Werder Bremen
5.
VBF Stuggart
With 17 matches already
played and the same number left to conclude the 2012/13 Bundesliga, the current
top 5 teams on the league table are: Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia
Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt and SC Freiburg.
The projected teams that are currently not among the first 5 on the
league table include Shalke 04(7th position), Stuggart (9th position) and
Werder Brumen (12th position). Shalke 04 and Stuttgart with 25 points apiece
are currently 1 point behind SC Freiburg, the fifth placed team, while Werder
Bremen with 22 points is 4 points off Freiburg.
From the brief
analysis, one can deduce that all the proposed teams still have strong chances
of ending up as the final 5 contenders on the Bundesliga league table since 17
matches are yet to be played and the margin between the current top 5
contenders and the proposed top 5 contenders is not so wide. Once again, the
CRS has proved to be effective enough to project yet another final football
league table placement in European.
THE
ITALIAN SERIE A CRS
The projected top 5
teams at the end of the Italian Serie A are:
1.
Juventus
2.
Inter Milan
3.
AS Roma
4.
AC Milan
5.
Udinese
After 18 matches with
20 yet to be played, the top 5 teams on the league table include:
1. Juventus
2. Lazio
3. Fiorentina
4. Inter
Milan
5. Napoli
Projected top 5 teams;
AS Roma, AC Milan and Udinese are currently in 6th , 7th and 10th place respectively with 32, 27 and 24 points
apiece. However, with 20 more games to be played it wouldn’t be surprising for
things turn in their favor since just 3, 8 and 10 points separate these teams
from the top 5. It may be a bit harder for Udinese to catch up but for AS Roma
it would just be a matter of time.
From this projection
using the Contenders rating Scale, at least we can say that 4 (if not all) out
of the 5 teams projected for the final league table placement in the Italian Serie
A will make the top 5 teams at the end of the season. Once again the CRS has
proved effective for final league table placement.
THE
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE (EPL) CRS
Now here comes a league
we are all very familiar with, the EPL. After 21 matches, the league table
currently has its first 5 teams as:
1.
Manchester United
2.
Manchester City
3.
Tottenham Hotspur
4.
Chelsea
5.
Everton
The projected final
contenders table is as follows:
1.
Arsenal
2.
Manchester United
3.
Manchester City
4.
Chelsea
5.
Liverpool
With 17 more matches to
go, the Red Devil’s currently enjoying a comfortable lead with 52 points and Mancini’s
men following closely behind with 45 points, it seems quite unlikely that the
likes of Arsenal and Liverpool at 6th and 8th position with 34 and 31 points
respectively can make their way to the final 5 contenders at the end of the
season. The two teams will need 3 and 5 points respectively to break into and
possibly remain in the top 5 league placement by the end of the season. With 18
and 17 matches left to be decided for the former and latter, this may be
possible.
The Contenders Rating
Scale (CRS) has proven once again to be quite effective in determining which
teams make it to the final football league table placement across Europe. The
CRS may serve as an effective guide to determining the final contenders of any
of the abovementioned leagues, but as they say, this is football and anything
can happen so, Expect Anything!!!
NB: To have a preview of the Contenders Rating Scale, please follow each link in the introduction to this work.
I hope y'all were taken through a smooth drive, added to getting spellbound on my perception of the Contenders Rating Scale (CRS), and of course, the beautiful game.
Thank you!!!
