renewed which has got football lovers across the world so excited to get themselves

No doubt the 2011/2012 season like previous seasons left an indelible mark in the hearts of football lovers of the first tier football leagues across Europe which I opine has made the 2012/2013 campaign one of a kind which will surely get lovers of the game more spellbound.

THE CONTENDERS RATING SCALE (CRS):
The CRS primarily entails the manner through which the selection of the teams I opine will compete for the trophy and a top 5 placement is made. This selection process will guide the purpose of this work which is to arrive at a projection on the more favoured clubs that I hypothesize will be in the best position to win the league or at least have a top notch finish that will lead to the qualification of the coveted UEFA Champions league spot, courtesy a top 4 finish.
In arriving at the final 5 teams in the respective leagues, the contenders will have to be closely analyzed. By the contenders, I mean the 5 teams that will make the final selection having considered the consistency of these teams with regards to their top 5 final table placement in the last 5 years of the respective seasons in view. But due to the possibility of a tie, some leagues might have more than 5 contenders.
An example is the French Ligue 1 which is explained in the course of this article.
The CRS will entail the following steps;
1. The top 5 teams in each of the last 5 years (seasons) “2007/2008, 2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011 and the 2011/2012” will be considered for selection into the contenders.
2. In analyzing the last 5 years thereby paying attention to the top 5 teams in these years, a 5 mark (point) scale will be used to credit the teams based on their final league table placement in each of these years as stated in step 1.
3. Having rated these teams, the overall total mark scale will be obtained by summing up the yearly mark scale of these clubs based on the number of times they had a top 5 finish. However, the final league placement in each of these years would be the major determinant at arriving at the overall mark scale. Also, the position of these teams in the contenders table will be the final determinant. Thus, with the marks summed up and the contenders table considered, the 5 teams with the highest marks will make up what I call the contenders. These contenders will be the teams in focus when the 5 leagues are individually analyzed.
The order through which these teams will be credited are as follows;
The 1st placed teams will have 5 marks (mks)
The 2nd placed team will have 4 mks.
The 3rd placed team will have 3 mks.
The 4the placed team will have 2 mks.
The 5th placed team will have 1 mk.
Here is an illustration of the CONTENDERS RATING SCALE with the French Ligue 1 in use.

All marks obtained with regards to the 5 marks rating scale are stated in each of these years with the summation of marks obtained in all 5 years fianally achieved.
Of all 11 teams, Lyon had 17 marks. This is due to the fact that they had a top 5 finish in all years in view. They recorded 5 marks in the 2007/2008 season for finishing 1st and clinching the league title. In subsequent seasons (2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011 and 2011/2012) Lyon had 3, 4, 3 and 2 marks respectively for having a 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place finish respectively.
At the bottom, St Etienne and Sochaux finished last with 1 mark apiece. The 1 mark obtained by both clubs is due to the fact that they (St. Etienne and Sochaux) recorded their presence once with a 5th place finish in the 2007/2008 and 2010/2011 seasons respectively.
From the table, the teams to make up the 2012/2013 contenders list are Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lille, PSG and Montpellier. I reiterate, as against the 5 teams limit to make up the contenders, 6 teams will be used in the French Ligue 1. This is due to the fact that Montpellier and PSG are both tied on 6 marks in 5th and 6th place.
