The Sole Friendship for my Soul (Poem)

The colour of your friendship
As fresh as raindrops
I thirst for,
To keep dehydration at bay

Your friendship,
Beautiful as the colours of the rainbow
An umbrella against downpour

Your friendship, all weather it survives
A future secured
Not deterred by climate change

Your friendship,
A repellent to keep mosquitoes at bay
Life given another chance
Death dealt a heavy blow

Your friendship, my sole candidate
For the president of my heart
For the desired change
A love I desire to secure my future

Your love, the heart beat
For my survival

Your love, the air I breathe
To see the light of everyday
True friendship, your love I live

I Love Antonyms (Poem)

Antonyms you find in me, Kehinde Taiwo
Get it straight, not twisted, that’s my name
An antonym you always read

We first not to be the last
But the last could be the first
Many are called, few are chosen

Early to rise, late to bed
Fruit of thy labour, thy sow to reap

Once a tenant, now a landlord
Poverty we run from, riches we work to’
Life is hard, cursed in the former
Life is sweet, blessed with the latter

Selflessness, the sky nations fly to
In the spotlight, First world
Selfishness, the ground nations fall on
Into obscurity, Third world

What you love you don’t hate
But what you hate you could love
English exams, a failure to hate Jam’ by JAMB
But antonyms a love, pass’ by English to you

Forward ever, backward never
For better or worse, our hearts locked as one
Joy, we live forever together
Sorrow, separated

White or black, equally created
From one source, God
Racism, a fight with might
To be bright

Freedom of speech, the world preach’
Pitched against tyranny
But God’s wisdom the Bible teaches
To the kingdom,
Reached with freedom

Maya Angelou: An Angel uniting the World (Poem)

Maya Angelou, a poetic heroine of the black race
Celebrated all over the world with a loud ovation
Ear drums vibrates to her heartfelt words
From her words, lost hope is found
Inspiration is rejuvenated and defeat dealt a heavy blow

Beyond her death we are spurred to ‘exhume’ the hero in us
Life is short, her words outlives her life
Beyond her generation
To my generation
And generations unborn

Maya, an Angel uniting the world
With her words, disunity unleashes unity
War, made peace
Good life, a better life
And life, given a meaning
Maya Angelou, rest in peace
Always!
